A waste collection center in an industrial area on the outskirts of Rome was experiencing constant voltage drops and micro-outages, which caused standard charging stations to shut down and halted the compactors’ nighttime cycles. Dogma engineered a BESS designed to also function as a UPS, capable of detecting grid anomalies and switching to off-grid operation in less than 200 milliseconds, ensuring that the vehicles could complete their cycles without interruptions or manual restarts.

The Challenge

The problem wasn’t the power available under normal conditions, but its instability: all it took was a brownout to shut down the entire nighttime harvesting cycle.

Technical Challenge

A suburban industrial area prone to frequent voltage drops (brownouts) and micro-outages, which cause standard charging stations to shut down and disrupt the nighttime cycles of the compactors.

The Solution

Dogma treated electrical continuity as an integral part of the charging system, not as a separate issue: the BESS is not only used to charge vehicles, but also to protect them from grid instability.

DCS Intelligence and SoC Reserve

The Dogma Control System mathematically reserves a portion of the charge level (20%), dedicating it exclusively to the UPS emergency function.

Seamless Transfer Procedure

When a network anomaly is detected, the DCS responds with a latency of less than 200 milliseconds to initiate a seamless transfer. The PCS switches to island mode, delivering up to 150 kW of continuous, pure power from the batteries: the vehicles complete the cycle without interruption or the need for manual restarts.
